Commissioned in 2012 by Jacksonville Dance Theatre, (Be)longing examines the cyclical and destructive nature of abuse through the intertwined lenses of longing and the pursuit of freedom. The work delves into the emotional contradictions experienced by those caught within abusive dynamics. The persistent pull toward connection, even when it harms, and the simultaneous desire to break away. Through movement and atmosphere, it reveals how patterns of control, attachment, and vulnerability repeat over time, blurring the line between comfort and captivity. Ultimately, (Be)longing traces the fragile, often nonlinear journey toward self-awareness, autonomy, and the possibility of release
